Free tool

See your section on the map.

Mineral deeds describe land in township, range, and section — not addresses. Type yours and watch it drop onto satellite imagery, with the geology and operators around it spelled out in plain English.

Township-and-range states only.

A number from 1 to 36.

Pick yours for a geology & operator summary.

Section outlines come from the BLM National PLSS (CadNSDI) and are approximate. This is an educational locator — not a survey, legal description, title opinion, or appraisal.

Enter a township, range, and section, then map it. We’ll draw the section on satellite imagery and — if you pick your county — summarize the geology and operators around it.

How it works

Real survey data, honestly labeled.

A locator to orient you — not a substitute for a surveyor, a title opinion, or a valuation.

The section outline is pulled live from the Bureau of Land Management’s national Public Land Survey System (the CadNSDI dataset) — the same grid your deed’s legal description refers to. It’s drawn to orient you on the ground, and it’s approximate: the true boundaries of what you own are set by your deed and a licensed survey, not by a web map.

Township and range only exist in the public-land states, so this tool covers our Rockies footprint — Colorado, Wyoming, North Dakota, Montana, Utah, and New Mexico. Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and most of Ohio use old metes-and-bounds descriptions instead, with no section grid to map.

The geology and operator notes describe your county broadly, drawn from our own basin research — they’re a starting point, not a statement about your exact tract, and operators change hands constantly through mergers. When you want the actual wells, permits, and units touching one specific section, that’s the free homework we do in a conversation. Nothing here is legal advice or an offer.

No pressure, ever

Want the actual wells under your section?

Most people who call us aren’t ready to sell. We’ll still tell you what you own, what it might be worth, and what we’d pay — then the next move is entirely yours.

No automated calls. No mailers with sight drafts. No follow-up unless you ask for it.
